TITLE: BAMBOO HOUSE   |   YEAR: 2015   |   WHERE: INDONESIA, JAVA   |   FOR: LOST TRAVELERS

This project stands apart from all others. It carries a deep personal significance. Although it is distinctly different from my other endeavors, I have included it here because I resonate with it profoundly.

In 2014, I was awarded a scholarship to Indonesia, organized by the Japanese government. The purpose of my journey was to study architecture at a university in the city of Surabaya.

To my surprise, due to an administrative error at the university, upon my arrival, no one was aware that I was supposed to study architecture there.

And that's where the magic began...

With no specific plans and an abundance of free time, I embarked on a journey of exploration. During my travels, I became particularly fascinated by traditional bamboo architecture. I was fortunate to meet Indonesians who specialized in this craft and welcomed me into their community.

Armed with their knowledge and support, I moved forward. I created a mock-up, an initial design, raised funds for materials on a crowdfunding site, and after a month, I was ready to build my own bamboo house. The project piqued the interest of some local friends who joined in.

In the last two months of my stay in Indonesia, I managed to live in my own creation. I know that after my return to Poland, other lost travelers found shelter there, which brought me great joy.
